Counseling

At its core, counseling is about relationship. The client-counselor relationship offers support as you navigate struggles and encouragement as you work to change patterns. It is in this context that you are invited to experience ways of relating to yourself, God, and others that are marked by increasing depths of truth, goodness, and beauty.

The therapeutic process hinges on the belief that struggle always offers an invitation for growth and healing. In individual therapy, clients gain self-awareness, develop more restorative coping strategies, and deepen their capacity for rich and honest relationships with others. Sometimes therapy begins with a particular problem or goal, while at other times, the therapeutic relationship helps clients find more meaning and satisfaction in their life and relationships with self, God, and others.

Areas of special focus:

  • the grief/loss process

  • panic, anxiety, and chronic stress

  • women’s well-being across the lifespan, including:

    • navigating singleness and dating

    • perinatal support (pregnancy + postpartum)

    • midlife transitions

Speaking

I love the way words can orient us, clarifying where we’ve been, holding space for where we are, and offering hope for where we are going. Words invite and foster growth in us, both individually and communally.

Whether it’s a group retreat, team workshop, or women’s event, my aim is to use words to lead groups towards deeper engagement with their individual and collective stories and richer presence in their respective communities.

Story Writing Groups

Story writing groups offer a group counseling experience that combines therapeutic writing with group processing. Participants are assigned writing prompts to complete both in session and between sessions that are then processed with other participants during group time.

This group design will invite you to write with specificity and clarity in order to honor and integrate parts of your story into a coherent narrative. In this way, the writing component of groups helps you tell the truth about your life and make sense of your story. It also helps you grow in awareness of the ways your story continues to play out in your current struggles so you can make meaningful changes in the strategies you use to you weather the challenges of life.

Previous individual counseling and/or group experience is recommended, along with an openness toward the writing process.

Prospective participants begin with an individual intake session and must agree to maintain confidentiality before enrolling in the group. Story writing groups are comprised of 3-6 participants and run for 8 week intervals at a time. New groups launch every fall and winter.
